Educational Information System and Data Warehouse Integration

Client Overview
The client is one of the famous colleges located in Canada, it gives students the advantage of partnerships with industry leaders, the latest in hands-on computer technology, a variety of class sizes, and full-time, part-time and continuing education options.

Project Overview
The purpose of this project is to share data and information between different departments in college. The data and information of undergraduate and graduate students are stored separately that causes inconvenience to get an overall picture of the whole college information. Utilizing a warehouse system to integrate the separately stored information is able to solve this problem. The data and information system is built for integration, shared information and easy-use.

Environment
Database: Oracle 10g
Web Server: Apache Tomcat 5
Techniques and Tools: Java Server Pages, HTML, Applets, CSS, JavaScript, PL / SQL, Crystal Report

Project Team
The project is developed by a software development team with three engineers in two months.

Solutions
The data from undergraduate and graduate students’ database are both stored in Oracle but with different schema. The actions happened in source data will be reflected to data warehouse tables to ensure the data consistency and integration, and also ensure the independency of two database systems. The final project was satisfied by client by exceeding their expectation. An efficient integrated educational information system was built in order to manage the data of undergraduates and graduates and get a whole picture of the college.
